Earlier Season Skiing... Why?

So the 2011-2012 ski season is here, and everyone is so excited and wants to go skiing NOW. The funny thing about that is there are only 3 places open, Loveland, Abasin and Wolfcreek. Don't get me wrong it is awesome that these places are open, but the only place worth skiing is Wolfcreek (5hr round trip from Denver). So the only two options you really have are Loveland and the Basin, and during the season these are two highly underrated mountains. Just remember it is the end of October... We should be happy that there is some snow in mountains, and Denver still has great weather, but we shouldn't be skiing right now. Loveland as of October 30 has 3 runs open, 1 lift open, and has had 46 inches year to date. Abasin has 2 runs open, 1 lift open and has a 18 inch base, and not to mention most of that snow is fake. Now tell me what is the point of going skiing right now??

Once you get to either Loveland or Abasin there will be a mob of people waiting in lines just like you did in elementary school. After waiting about 15-20 minutes to get on the lift, and depending on what mountain you are skiing you will either have a short 4 minute ride (Abasin) or a long 10 or so minute ride (Loveland). If you are skiing Abasin your run is so short that you'll be at the bottom of the mountain an be like WTF! If you are skiing Loveland you will have mile long run that will take you some time to get down, but you will fenced in like cattle with hundreds of cattle around you. The picture below is Abasin on Oct. 30 at 11:15am, really you want to stand and wait in that????

Just remember people, the ski season does start now, and the true skiing doesn't even start to almost January, and for great conditions it can as late as February. Instead of going up now, relax and take in the remaining time of good weather the Denver area that we will have, get your skies tuned and ready for the season, get all your equipment organized, and get your ski mix going. I know looking west you see snow capped peaks and are excited to go skiing, but relax, take a breath and just remember that you will be like fenced in cattle while skiing. Then you will have wait in the line like elementary students do for lunch.

Give it another month and and get up there and go skiing! The snow isn't going to disappear over night trust me!
